Bannewitz: On the 22nd and 23rd September, 2017 events take place in the municipality Bannewitz on the occasion of the 300th birthday of Johann Joachim Winckelmann.

Berlin: From the 16th of June to the 9th of October 2017 the gay museum presents in cooperation with the Klassik Stiftung Weimar an exhibition with the title “Winckelmann – The divine gender”.

Berlin / Milan: On the 19th of July, 2017 the „Winckelmann-Handbook“ was published at Metzler'sche Verlagsbuchhandlung (Stuttgart). This handbook is the first comprehensive guidebook to biography, writings and reception history of J. J. Winckelmann. Contributions are written by German and international archaeologists, art historians and literary scholars. Editors of the handbook are Prof. Dr. Martin Disselkamp (Berlin) and Prof. Dr. Fausto Testa (Milan).

Dresden: The Skulpturensammlung Dresden will be rearranged and will show its antiquities collection in 2019.  Nonetheless the statues of the so-called Herculaneum Women will be on display from 2016 on and will stand at the core of many Winckelmann-activities of years to come.

Frankfurt/Main / San Francisco: In the Liebieghaus Skulpturensammlung an exhibition is planned on Winckelmann and the discovery of chromaticity on antique sculpture. Furthermore will be shown an homage to Winckelmann within the exhibition "Gods In Color: Painted Sculpture in Antiquity" in San Francisco.

Gotha: Stiftung Schloss Friedenstein in Gotha was presenting a special exhibition from February 19th to April 9th on the subject of ancient intaglios entitled „Vollkommenheit in feinster Gravüre“ – antike Gemmen um 1760 (Sonderausstellung zum 300. Geburtstag Winckelmanns).

Halle/Saale: The art museum Moritzburg will display in cooperation with the Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg an exhibition from March 18th to June 10th 2018 on the subject “Ideale. Moderne Kunst seit Winckelmanns Antike”.

Kamenz / Stendal: As a joint project of Lessing-Museum in Kamenz and Winckelmann-Museum in Stendal an exhibition is in preparation for 2018 on the subject „Lessing and Winckelmann“, that will be on display in both houses. The exhibition will take place in Stendal from December 8th 2018 to March 31st 2019.

Munich: The State Collections of Antiquities in Munich will present an exhibition on the subject of Winckelmanns death called "Death in Trieste. On the traces of Johann Joachim Winckelmann".

Naumburg/Saale: In 2017 the Nietzsche Society will dedicate the 24th Volume of the yearbook “Nietzscheforschung” to the subject: “At the End: Tying in with Winckelmann? Winckelmann’s Antiquity and Nietzsche’s Criticism on Classicism and his View into the Future.”

Saarbrücken: The Museum for Prehistoric and Protohistoric Archaeology is presenting an exhibition on the journeys to Italy in the time of Winckelmann from April 1st to July 30th 2017.

Stendal: To mark the beginning of the Winckelmann-anniversaries in Stendal the Winckelmann society organizes a festival week together with the Hanseatic town Stendal. At different places of the town several events will be shown, amongst other things concerts, stage plays and lectures as well as a light show at the monument of Winckelmann. The festival week will take place from December 3rd to 9th 2017.

Stendal / Berlin (Winckelmann-Society): The International Winckelmann Congress will take place from June 13th to 15th 2018 and is supposed to be accompanied by additional conferences in various European cities, as already implemented since 2011.

Stendal / Mainz: The Winckelmann Edition, co-published by the Mainz Academy of Sciences and Literature and the Winckelmann-Society is planned for completion on occasion of the anniversaries. The academy will also contribute to the International Winckelmann Congress in June 2018.

Stendal / Winckelmann-Museum: Further activities will encompass the re-design of the entire Winckelmann Museum area (Winckelmann exhibition, Family Museum, Exhibition and Meeting Centre for Senior Citizens, Library). A mobile Winckelmann exhibition will tour the Altmark region. Additionally, a website registering all international activities is installed. It is designed to co-ordinate and to announce activities, events, publications and research projects.

In cooperation with the Vatican Museums an exhibition on Ferdinand Pettrich’s Indian sculptures is prepared for the summer of 2018.

In cooperation with the National Museum Naples an exhibition is planned on the Isis-temple at Pompeii, whose excavation Winckelmann witnessed in 1764. On display at Stendal will be original findings from the sanctuary, which are on loan by the National Museum.

Stendal / Theater of the Altmark: The theater is presenting a play reading with the title “Winckelmanns dream”.

Weimar: The Klassik Stiftung Weimar was showing an exhibition from April 7th to July 2nd 2017 at the Neue Museum with the title "Winckelmann. Moderne Antike”.

Wörlitz: The Kulturstiftung DessauWörlitz is presenting a Winckelmann exhibition in newly re-opened rooms of the “English Country House” (aka Palace). The title of the exhibition, that is open to the public from June 17th to September 17th 2017, is “Revolution of Taste. Winckelmann, Duke Franz and the palace in Wörlitz”.
