From October 1st to 8th 2017 the Akdeniz-University, Antalya, in cooperation with Winckelmann-Society prepares a conference entitled "Expeditions and excavations on the south coast of Turkey since the 18th century". The conference will be accompanied by an excursion to several archaeological sites located on the south coast of Turkey.
The south coast of Asia Minor with the ancient sites of Lycia, Pamphylia and Cilicia attracted the attention of scholars and travelers since at least the 18th century. Even Winckelmann temporarily planned a trip to the Orient. The colloquium in preparation will for the first time cohesively present and analyze reports on archaeological research and travelling to Karamania during the 18th and early 19th century.
